Families make up a big share of Koloa's reviews, and many say it was their kids' favourite thing on the island. The operator's rules are simple, but the weight and tandem rules are worth understanding before you book.
Everything below comes from the operator's site and the live Viator listing, checked in September 2026.
The quick answer
Children can ride Koloa Zipline from age 7, and minors must be with an adult. The maximum weight is 280 lb; lighter kids may be asked to ride tandem with a parent or a guide, with the operator giving 250 lb as the tandem maximum. On Viator, children 7 to 17 pay the adult price of $170.

What is the minimum age for Koloa Zipline?
Seven years old; children under 7 cannot ride.
Minors must be accompanied by an adult on the tour. If you have younger children, one parent can take the zipliners while the other enjoys Poipu Beach nearby.
What are the weight limits?
A maximum of 280 lb per rider, and lighter riders may need to ride tandem depending on weight and weather.
The Viator listing notes that lighter guests may be asked to tandem with a guide or partner, depending on their weight and the wind on the day.

Two riders are clipped onto the cable as normal and tethered to each other, so they ride the line together.
It lets parents ride with their children, or kids ride with a friend. The operator's tandem page gives a combined maximum of 250 lb for a tandem pair.

Do kids pay less?
No: on Viator, children 7 to 17 pay the adult price of $170.
That makes a family of four about $680 before tips. If you are comparing, Outfitters Kauai gives a small child discount on some tours. See Koloa Zipline tickets and prices.
Is the tour too hard for kids?
Most children manage easily; the uphill walks and steep steps tire adults more than kids.
Parents regularly write that their kids loved it. One reviewer noted there wasn't much hiking because the lines are close together, while others mention a few steep climbs. Bring water and take the breaks the guides offer.

What if my child gets scared?
Tell the guides early: the course starts with an easier line, and tandem riding lets a nervous child ride with you.
Guides are trained to coach first-timers, and many reviews mention them easing nerves. Read the first-timer guide for more.

Families rate it one of the best things they did on Kauai. Eight lines, tandem for kids.
Explore Koloa Zipline's 8-line tourWhat should kids wear?
The same as adults: a sleeved shirt, knee-length shorts or pants, and closed-toe shoes with grip.
Tie back long hair, apply sunscreen and bug spray before you leave the office, and keep toys and loose items in the car. The full list is in what to wear.
Are there alternatives for younger children?
No zipline on Kauai takes riders under 7, but the Kipu Zipline Safari lets 5- and 6-year-olds join the kayak, hike and swim.
The Safari mixes kayaking, a swim and ziplines into a full day with lunch; younger children skip the zipline while older family members ride. For toddlers, a morning at Poipu Beach or Lydgate Park's protected pools is the easier choice.
Kids 5 and up? The Safari adds kayaking and a swim; the zipline itself starts at 7.

Can a 6-year-old do Koloa Zipline?
No. The minimum age is 7, and the same goes for every zipline on Kauai. The Kipu Zipline Safari at Kipu Ranch lets children from 5 join its kayak and hike, but not the zipline.
Do children have to ride tandem?
Only if they are too light to ride safely alone on the day; the guides decide based on weight and wind.
Is there a child price?
Not on Viator: children 7 to 17 pay the same as adults.
